Using Glif with a Ledger Device
This post will cover how to approve Filecoin transactions with your Ledger Device. To learn how to install the Filecoin app on your Ledger Device, click here.
Show Address on Device
As a security measure, we always recommend checking to make sure the wallet address you see on the screen matches the one on your device. To check, go to the Glif Wallet, login with your Ledger Device, and click "Show on Device" as seen in the screenshot below.

After clicking "Show on Device" look on your Ledger Device:

Once you've verified that the address on your device matches the one on the screen, make sure to click "approve" on your Ledger Device before continuing. Now you're ready to approve transactions!
Simple (Wallet) Transactions
When using the Glif Wallet, you will be asked to approve simple transactions. Just like you did in the step above, it's important to verify that what you see on the computer screen matches what you see on your Ledger Device before approving a transaction.
For example, let's say you want to send someone with the address t1c3es7cqx3kebw4a2zektbzyhasehisp64mge3ni
1 FIL from your wallet with the address t1dhpgwpka6olii44vz6ogmbe7dubv335e7xhjzhy
.
Your Glif Wallet screen would look like this:

It's not quite as easy to read, but your Ledger Device should display matching information. Ensure at least three things:
- The To address is the recipient you intend to send FIL
- The Value is the right amount of FIL you intend to send
- The Method is "Transfer"
As long as those three fields match, you can safely approve the transaction by toggling through the Ledger screens until you see "Approve", and selecting that option.

Multisig (Safe) Transactions
When using the Glif Safe, you will be asked to approve more complex transactions with "parameters".
In order to continue, you will need to enable "Expert mode" on your device:

After enabling expert mode, you're ready to approve Safe transactions!
Let's say you (t1dhpgwpka6olii44vz6ogmbe7dubv335e7xhjzhy
) want to Propose a 1 FIL Transfer from your Glif Safe (t2wspaca56ylpxos6wb3kyvlu2vfyulrmiqjltq7y1
) to another Wallet Address (t1c3es7cqx3kebw4a2zektbzyhasehisp64mge3ni
).
On the Glif Safe screen, you should see this:

On your Ledger Device, you should make sure the following fields match:
- The To address is your Safe address (not the recipient!).
- The From address is your Wallet address
- The Value is 0.
There are some other important pieces of information to be aware of:
- The Method field will either be the number 2 (proposal), 3 (approval), or 4 (cancelation).
- The information about the multisig transaction you're submitting (like a recipient or a value) is encoded inside "Params". We're working on making this human readable in the future.
Identical to the Wallet, if you're ready to approve the transaction, you can do so by toggling through the Ledger screens until you see "Approve", and selecting that option.
